PLEIN AIR SILK PAINTING

Jan Janas

An intense and challenging workshop offering an entrance into capturing the outdoor scenic beauty of Santa Fe county.  We will work on sumptuous silk surfaces with jewel-toned dyes.  A contemporary silk painting approach will be used with the following tools: fabric markers, mist sprayers, brush, and sponge;  mediums: sodium alginate, stop flow, dye, water, and techniques: thickened dyes, wet-on-wet, monotype, dry brush, and line work.
The morning will be spent in preparation of supplies, an explanation of landscape compositions with teacher samples and demonstration of techniques. Next we will hop on a
van and drive to a choice area on the out-skirts of Santa Fe.  Students will paint scenes of personal choice.  There will be lively group discussions, and plenty of individual guidance from the instructor.  Expect to finish 3 to 6 landscapes on silk.  Past silk painting experience required (intermediate to advanced) and some art background preferred.
