The goal of this class is to aid those students, who would like to learn about successfully incorporating images of people, fauna and flora in their work on silk. Such types of fine art paintings as portraits, landscapes, still-lifes and florals will be re-viewed, and the principals of composition and colour, as well as selection of interesting and compelling imagery will be discussed. During the class traditional and contemporary techniques of painting on silk with dyes will used to create a painting in one of the above genres.
I have been working in this medium for several years, and have many of my paintings on silk in private collections in the United and abroad (Russia, England, Monaco, Switzerland). In 2008 a book on orchids with my botanical illustrations, both on paper with ink and on silk with dyes, is scheduled for publishing.
My formal education was as follows: a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Moscow State University, Russia (Masters in History and English), a Trompe l’Oeil Certificate and an Award of Excellence from the Paier College of Art (Hamden, CT), complete courses in figure and portrait painting with Joseph Funaro, and in children’s book design and illustration with Jean Day Zallinger. I’m a Fellow member of the American Artists’ Professional League (the Salmagundi Club, New York, NY) and a Full member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolf Art Club (New York, NY). As a professional artist, I do paintings on commission, sell my work through art galleries and also work with interior designers.
